Alone9/18/2017 The light creeped over the horizon, threatening the tranquil night-time that held its presence throughout the cold night. A singular ray of light gleamed in through the window, warming my cheek. I had just awoken, sleep clinging to my eyes for dear life and the veneer of exhaustion glossed the whites of my eyes. My pupils restricted.
I could smell the coffee in the next room, my wife must be up. I rubbed my eyes and stood up, opening the curtains and peering outside. The window was left slightly ajar, letting in the warm breeze from outside. I got dressed into something more appropriate than my birthday suit and headed down the stairs, being careful not to fall down my ridiculously steep stairs. I could see my wife in the kitchen; cooking some breakfast. Eggs, sunny side up. "Good morning darling" "Morning" she smiled back, pouring black liquid into my cup. I noticed her hair, flowing softly behind her back; she was absolutely beautiful. She turned to me, handing me the cup. "Thank you" Her eyes stared into mine, a lovely mirage of blue, I could fall for her a million times with just one glare. Her eyes begun to turn red as a lone tear fell down her face. "What's up darling?" She lifted her head and looked into my eyes, wiping away the tear. "I have to go soon" Shocked by this, I put my arms around her waist, hugging her. "Don't say that, what are you talking about?" She took a deep sigh and said "I'm not real my love" "What? Of course you are real." She began to shiver. "I have to go now" I held her hand, tightening my grip as I could feel her fade away. I awoke, weary and restless. 'Another dream' I thought, as I got out of my cold, unforgiving bed.
